Our Impact
Bags and debris as far as the eye can see!! We started our clean-up efforts in Greenfield, with a very large dumpsite on Flemington Street. An estimated 7.5 tons was suggested to have been there before we arrived, although our numbers show there being more toward 9 tons. Depending on the situation, Stashthetrash.org often encourages volunteers to go through the extra effort of recycling, if possible, when cleaning up a dumpsite. Litter and debris... as well as dozens of large tires, shopping carts, etc... were pulled from a large hillside. This area will no longer serve as an eye-soar to the neighbors, and is just one of 20 dumpsites in Greenfield. Our organization to date has eliminated 19 of the 20 surveyed dumpsites in Greenfield identified in the PA Cleanways survey.

Here are some photos of the dramatic results of our very first effort, along the Eliza Furnace and Three Rivers Heritage Trails and the other trails in the Duck Hollow section of Squirrel Hill. The mountain of trash and debris that is seen in the photos above and below, is all debris that was collected from illegal dumpsites along the river and trails. In Just 4 hours, over 12 full truck-loads of trash and debris was collected and placed in this collection area by our crew for pick-up by the city public-works crews to remove the following Monday. We are pleased to announce they did come Monday, and all the debris was hauled away!
